NEWS ASSIGNMENT

ASSIGNMENT FOR 26th , FEB , 2010


1. The three day All India Inter Club Rugby 7's tournament from 8.50 am onwards at Kirodimal College and Dhaulat Ram College. 40 clubs from every part of the country participating in which expats from many countries like New Zealand, United Kingdom Australia, France and Kenya, will also participate.

2. All hockey teams participating in World Cup Hockey tournament will give a pose for cameramen at 9.00 am at India Gate.

3. There will be a photo –op at North Block , Gate No. 2 for Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee at 9.00 am befor the presentation of budget.

4. Pakistan Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir will meet External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee at South Block at 9.30 am.

5. Finance Minister Pranab Mukerjee will be at Parliament House with his budget suitcase at 10.00 am .

6. CII is making arrangements for media and some prominent CII members to view the Budget proceedings LIVE at 10. 30 AM at India Habitat Centre, (Jacaranda), Lodi Road, New Delhi.

7. FICCI is organizing a Media-Business Interface at 11.00 A.M. Senior Industrialists will be watching the Budget Presentation “live” at the Federation House and will be available for comments to the media thereafter .

8. PHD CHAMBER organizes LIVE MEDIA INTERFACE-BUDGET DAY MEETING at 11.00 AM at PHD House, New Delhi.

9. Press Conf on International Music Festival . The press Conference will be chaired by ADG CW at 11.30 AM at 124 TA Bn (SIKH) Near India Gate.

10. Pakistan Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir will leave for Amritsar at 12.00 Noon from Domestic Airport.

11. Finance Minister, Pranab Mukherjee will speak to media persons immediately after his Budget speech and laying a copy of Budget on the table of the House at 1.15 p.m. outside Gate No.4, Parliament House, New Delhi.

12. Preview of Malini Ramani's Summer / Resort 2010 collection for Lakme Fashion Week, being held in March at 2.00 pm at Keya, DLF Promenade

13. Sharad Pawar, Minister of Agriculture, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution will be releasing the Coffee Table Book comprising 101 success stories of farmers at Hall No. 5, Vigyan Bhawan, at 2 p.m.

14. Arvinder Singh Lovely, Minister of Sports, Education and Transport, Government of Delhi along with SHERA MASCOT OF THE XIX COMMONWEALTH GAMES 2010 DELHI to inaugurate the Green Games at "52nd Flower Show” at Mughal Garden, University of Delhi (opp Vice Chancellors office) at 2:30 PM.

15. Senior Officials of the Ministry of Finance headed by Finance Secretary, Ashok Chawla will address a Post Budget Press Conference at 3.30 p.m. at PIB Conference Hall, Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi.

16. Press Briefing by Secretary (East) on forthcoming visit of Prime Minister to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at 3.45 pm at XP Division Briefing Hall, Shastri Bhawan

17. Prithviraj Chavan, Minister of State (I/C) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences ,will confer the National Awards for Science Communication on the occasion of National Science Day at 5.00 P.M. at Raman Auditorium, Technology Bhawan, New Mehrauli Road,New Delhi.

18. 8th WORLD SUFI MUSIC FESTIVAL Conceived and directed by Muzaffer Ali from 6.30 pm onwards at Arab ki Sarai, Humayun’s Tomb Monuments. Participants are Masako Ono, (Japan) , Sanam Marvi (Pakistan) , Samandar Khan & group( Rajasthan, India) and Rabbi Shergill (Punjab, India)

19. Penguin Books India launches BECOMING INDIAN : THE UNFINISHED REVOLUTION OF CULTURE AND IDENTITY , written by Pavan K. Varma at Nandiya Gardens, ITC Maurya, Diplomatic Enclave, Sardar Patel Marg, New Delhi at 7.00 pm.

20. HarperCollins Publishers India launches the book MADE IN INDIA ADVENTURES OF A LIFETIME , written by Biddu from 8.00 pm onwards at Atrium DLF Promenade Vasant Kunj, New Delhi Biddu will read from the book and perform.


ON WATCH - RADAR & FORTHCOMING EVENTS


1. The 55th Filmfare Awards ceremony will be held at Yash raj Studios in Mumbai on Feb 27.

2. India play Pakistan in the opening match of the 12th International Hockey Federation Men’s Hockey World Cup at the Dhyan Chand National Stadium on Feb 28.

3. The Indian Air Force will carry out a firepower demonstration in the Pokharan firing region in Rajasthan on Feb 28.

4. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to visit India on March 11 & 12.

5. The Indian and Pakistani foreign secretaries will meet in New Delhi on Feb 25 , for the first time since 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

6. NSCN- IM leaders to visit India in April for talks.

7. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will host an international convention on "financial inclusion and financial literacy" in Bangalore on March 22 as part of its platinum jubilee celebrations.

8. Manmohan Singh will visit Washington in April to attend the Global Nuclear Security Summit to be hosted by the White House on April 12 and 13.

9. Pranab Mukherjee's first visit as finance minister to the USA will be on April 24-25 to attend the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group .

10. Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (Autumn/Winter 2010 edition) is scheduled from March 24 - 28, 2010 at the NSIC Exhibition Complex, Okhla, New Delhi .

11. Lt General Vijay Kumar Singh will be the next Indian Army chief. He will take over from the incumbent army chief General Deepak Kapoor on March 31.
