NEWS ASSIGNMENT

ASSIGNMENT FOR 12th JANUARY , 2010

1. INDIA – PAK FRIENDSHIP CONCLAVE : The concluding day of three- day conclave will discuss the “ Militancy, joint mechanism and role of the US “ from 9.30 am onwards at India International Centre , Auditorium. Participants are Amitabh Mattoo (Prof. International Politics, JNU & Member of the National Knowledge Commission) , Ayesha Siddiqa (Security Analyst, Strategic Affairs Columnist, Pakistan) , Rajiv Sikri (Former Secretary, MEA, India) , Sajjad Lone (President, Peoples Conference). The discussion will be chaired by I.A. Rehman (Human Rights Commission of Pakistan).

2. Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh will lay wreathe at 0955 am at at the Samadhi of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru , Shanti Van.

3. A high level business delegation is accompanying the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina to India. CII is organising an exclusive business meeting with the high level business delegation from Bangladesh at 1000 hrs at Jacaranda II, India Habitat Centre, Lodi Road, New Delhi.

7. Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal PV Naik will visit the NCC Republic Day Camp 2010 and address the NCC cadets at 10.30 am at DG NCC Republic Day Camp, Garrison Parade Ground, Delhi Cantt.

Participants are B Murlidhar Reddy (Journalist , The Hindu , based in Sri Lanka) , Liaqat Ali Toor (Journalist, Associated Press of Pakistan, based in Delhi) , Kuldip Nayar (Veteran Journalist) , Mahesh Bhatt (Film Maker) and Madeeha Gauhar (Theatre Director and Women Rights’ Activist, Pakistan). The discussion will be chaired by Ved Bhasin (Editor, Kashmir Times).

19. Anand Sharma, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, will address the Press, at Committee Room No.47, Udyog Bhavan, at 2.00 pm.

20. George Fellows, President and CEO of Callaway Golf will address a press conference and announce its India Brand Ambassador at 2:30 pm at Desire, Le Meridien, Janpath, New Delhi.

24. Sheikh Hasina will meet Mamta Banerjee , Minister of Railways at Hotel ITC Maurya at 5.00 pm.

25. The Neemrana Music Foundation presents , its latest opera 'If I were King' at 7 pm at Siri Fort Auditorium. This opera by Adolphe Adam, set in Goa in 1510, is the story of a young fisherman Zephoris who is made king for one day by the King of Goa. He discovers that the minister Kadoor is about to betray the King and let the Portuguese invade Goa! The Portuguese are defeated and, to thank Zephoris, the King offers him his cousin, the Princess Nemea, in marriage. The 200 participants (singers, dancers, musicians) come from India, France and Sri-Lanka.

26. Press Club of India is celebrating LOHRI at 7.30 p.m. at Press Club lawn. Artists from Punjabi Academy will perform on the occasion.

1. JAIPUR will play host to Asia's leading literary festival for authors, publishers and book lovers from January 21 to January 25 at Diggi Palace in Jaipur.

2. The longest Annular eclipse of this millennium will make an appearance on 15th Jan 2010.This eclipse will be one of the rarest eclipses which will start in Africa and pass over India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh before ending in China.

3. International Buddhist Convention to be held in Baroda, Gujarat from 15th-17th January, 2010. H.H.The Dalai Lama has consented to be the Chief Guest.
