ASSIGNMENT FOR 31^st    MARCH , 2010

1. CSR is holding a National Consultation titled “Effective Implementation of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 (PWDVA)” from 9:00am onwards at Gulmohar Hall, India Habitat Centre. Key Speakers:  Krishna Tirath, Ministry of Women and Child Development,  Dr. Indira Jaising, Director, Lawyer’s Collective, CEDAW, Chandrasheh Kumari, Chairperson Committee on Empowerment of Women (LS), Dr. Girija Vyas, Chairperson, National Commission for Women, Dr Ranjana Kumari, Director, Centre for Social Research.

2. Annual Conference of State Minorities Commissions. Union Minister for Home Affairs, P. Chidambaram,  to inaugurate the Conference at Hall No. 5, Vigyan Bhawan, at 9.30 A.M.

3. The Foundation for Media Professionals (FMP), in association with the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML), is organizing a panel discussion on whether the mainstream media is neglecting the North East from 10.30 AM onwards at Auditorium, Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, Teen Murti House, New Delhi.   Panelists are Subir Bhaumik, Geoffrey Yaden, Syed Zarir Hussain, Dibang, Sevanti Ninan and others.

4. Gen Deepak Kapoor, Chief of the Army Staff will be retiring from service on 31 Mar 2010. Ceremonial functions such as (a) Wreath Laying at Amar Jawan Jyoti at 11.00 AM and (b) Guard of Honour (Near Gate No -2 ) at                     11: 10 hrs  at South Block Lawns.

5. Singapore Exhibition Services Pte Ltd (SES) organizes a Press Conference for CommunicAsia2010 at 11:30 am at  The Regency, The Lalit, New Delhi.

6. Press conference on Festival of India in China and France alongwith  live performances by rock band Indian Ocean, Kalari Payattu (martial arts from Kerala), Kathak by artists from Kala Ashram (institution run by Birju Maharaj).artists travelling to China & France at 12.30 pm at ICCR’s Azad Bhawan Auditorium, I P Estate.

7. Prithviraj Chavan, Minister of State (IC) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences will address a Press Conference on Initiatives of Ministry of Science & Technology, for ‘Promoting Research in Mathematical Sciences’ at 2: .30 P.M. at Hotel Ashok, Chankyapuri, New Delhi

8. Anand Sharma, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, will be releasing the Consolidation of FDI Policy Press Note 2010, at Committee Room No.47, Udyog Bhawan, New Delhi on Wednesday at 3.00 p.m.

9. Jairam Ramesh, Minister of State for the Ministry of Environment and Forests (Independent charge) will brief on EAI and Forest Clearances at 03.00 P M at Conference Hall, Room 403, Ministry of Env & Forests, Paryavaran  Bhavan, Lodhi Road.

10. FICCI jointly with ICC India, is holding  “79th Annual General Meeting of ICC India” at 4:00 PM at FICCI, Tansen Marg The theme of the AGM will be “Emerging Market Economies: Leading the World out of Recession.  Suman K Bery, Member, Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council will inaugurate the meeting.

11. Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram will present the Report Card of the Ministry  of Home Affairs for the month of March, 2010 at 4.15 p.m. at  Conference Hall.

12. Computerized draw for selection of Yatris to be presided by External Affairs Minister for  Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2010  at MEA, South Block, Committee Room ( R.No 162) on  31 March 2010 (Wednesday) at 5:00 PM .

13. Kamalesh Sharma, Commonwealth Secretary General to attend “ Sir Sorabji Pochkanawala Memorial Lecture at  Vigyan Bhawan at 5.00 PM.

14. Air Force Association will conduct the 27th Air Chief Marshal PC Lal Memorial Lecture at 5.00 pm at Air Force Auditorium, Subroto Park, New Delhi-10. Anand Sharma, Union Minister for Commerce & Industry has kindly consented to deliver the lecture on “INDIA’S STRATEGIC OUTLOOK IN THE 21st CENTURY”.

15. Padma Award function at Rashtrapati Bhawan at 5.30 pm. This year the President has approved 130 awards including 13 in the category of Foreigners/ NRIs/ PIOs. These comprise 6 Padma Vibhushan, 43 Padma Bhushan and 81 Padma Shri awards. There are 17 ladies among the awardees

ON WATCH - RADAR & FORTHCOMING EVENTS

1. One common accreditation pass for cameraman and reporter can be obtained online from Organising Committee of Commonwealth Games. Last date is March 31, 2010.

2. Lok Sabha to resume its sitting on 15^th April , 2010.

3. Manmohan Singh will visit Washington in April to attend the Global Nuclear Security Summit to be hosted by the White House on April 12 and 13.

4. All Matathipathis (heads of mutts) and sadhus of South India would convene at Namakkal in Salem on April 18 to discuss the status of religious conversions.

5. Pranab Mukherjee's first visit as finance minister to the USA will be on April 24-25 to attend the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group .

6. Lt General Vijay Kumar Singh  will be the next Indian Army chief. He will take over from the incumbent army chief General Deepak Kapoor on March 31.
